LIVINGHOMES® INTRODUCES THE FIRST KIERANTIMBERLAKE LIVINGHOME AS A SHOWCASE HOME WITH KOHLER CO. AT THE EXCLUSIVE TED CONFERENCE LivingHomes® (www.livinghomes.net), a premier developer of modern, sustainably designed, prefabricated homes, has partnered with Kohler Co., a global leader in the manufacture of kitchen and bath fixtures and faucets, to present the Kohler LivingHome at the exclusive TED Conference in Long Beach, CA. Designed to achieve LEED-Platinum certification, the two-story Kohler LivingHome will feature furnishings, materials, products and technologies that showcase the best in high design and technology with a low ecological footprint. Following its debut at TED, LivingHomes will open the house to the public during the period from February 8 to February 21, 2009. The Kohler LivingHome, loaded with extras, is for sale at $499,950. “Kohler shares our core values for great form, function, and resource efficiency,” explains Steve Glenn, CEO of LivingHomes and one of the speakers at this year’s TED Conference. “We’ve featured Kohler products in every LivingHome to date, and believe this home underscores our commitment to quality and craftsmanship. This is the first in a new line of moderately-priced single and multi-family LivingHomes, designed for infill venues, that we’ll be completing over the next year and we’re happy to be opening it up to the public for the first time.” To bring the home to Long Beach, LivingHomes has partnered with several companies whose products and philosophies reflect an emphasis on great design and healthy and sustainable processes and materials -- values shared by LivingHomes. Presenting sponsor Kohler provides the Kohler LivingHome with a new generation of water saving plumbing fixtures for the kitchen and bathrooms with which an average family of four could expect water savings of between 30,000 and 45,000 gallons per year. The company’s recently launched viral educational program, SaveWaterAmerica.com, is highlighted as well. Overall sponsor Autodesk® has created two interactive experiences for visitors to the home. One experience allows visitors to use “x-ray” vision to see the underlying infrastructure, and the other allows them to simulate a digital model using a physical interface. Seventh Generation sponsors the Nursery and showcases their environmentally safe products throughout the home. Office Depot presents an eco-preferable Greener Office that visitors to the home can register to win. SkypeTM, the Communications sponsor of the Kohler LivingHome, will showcase their video calling, so visitors can experience video calling in a home setting. Mission Motors is building the fastest production electric motorcycle in the world, and will unveil their groundbreaking new concept in a design studio setting within the home. Lexus Hybrid Living’s visionary partners Coyuchi, Peter Danko, Livingreen, One Earth One Design and others provide sustainable interior furnishings based on an interior design program developed by Kristin Kilmer Designs. A native landscape garden designed by Ulysses Aban surrounds the home. SUSTAINABILITY As the developer of the nation’s first LEED® Platinum home, and with over nine LivingHomes in development that are designed to achieve LEED Platinum, LivingHomes is one of the more determined builders of environmentally conscious homes. Designed to achieve USGBC’s LEED for Homes Platinum certification, the Kohler LivingHome reflects LivingHomes’ Z6 Sustainable Building Goals which include six key objectives for all LivingHomes’ construction and operation: Zero Water, Zero Energy, Zero Waste, Zero Emissions, Zero Carbon, and Zero Ignorance. From the recycled steel and timber-efficient engineered lumber that make up the modules, central vacuum system, and mini-duct air distribution and ventilation systems that help improve indoor air quality; to the bio-composite wood siding, recycled glass tiles, blown-in insulation, high- performance windows with recycled frames, water-saving features and the home resource monitoring system that displays water, energy, and gas usage in real-time, the Kohler LivingHome is built to achieve a minimal environmental footprint. “As with all LivingHomes, Kohler LivingHome features an extremely comprehensive environmental program which dramatically reduces the water and energy the home requires for operation, as well as reducing construction waste and indoor air pollution,” says Glenn. Once it is placed on a permanent site, the home will generate and store power, and it will be eligible for LEED® certification. PUBLIC TOURS AND GREEN BUILDING SEMINARS The LivingHome will be open to the public from Feb 8-21 and free tours must be scheduled in advance due to occupancy limitations. In addition to public tours, LivingHomes will be offering Green Building Seminars led by Steve Glenn or Project Architect Amy Sims. These seminars cost $35 per person. All details for the event including parking information, tickets to the green building seminar, and tickets to the free open houses can be found online at www.livinghomes.net/kohlerlivinghome. FOR SALE The Kohler LivingHome was built to serve as a showcase and as a result, it includes finishes, appliances, fixtures and state-of-the-art technology that represent the best in sustainable design. The Kohler LivingHome is valued at over $675,000, but is being offered for sale at $499,950. That price does not include transport, install or foundation, which will vary based on site location and land. “With an incredible number of upgrades and high-end products included, the Kohler LivingHome offers a great value for buyers looking for a home that integrates world class design with high quality, sustainable construction,” explains Glenn. He adds that buyers need not presently have land, since LivingHomes can store the home while land is secured, or a foundation is built. Once a foundation is completed, LivingHomes can install and finish the LivingHome for its new owner in less than a month. Prospective buyers should write LivingHomes at info@livinghomes.net. |
